Don't just ask where to go. Ask when.

Lithuania changes dramatically when your dates land on the right weekend. This is not every craft fair and tribute concert. It is the shortlist: events worth changing dates for, events worth adding if you're already here, and big nights that can turn one ticket into a proper trip.

Fluxus Festival

People in costumes climb Parodos Hill at night from Jurgis Mačiūnas Square while one of Kaunas's busiest roads becomes an art action. It is playful, local, strange and almost impossible to confuse with a generic European city break.

See how I would build the weekend →

September double-header: AUDRA runs in Kaunas 3–6 September while Vilnius City Fiesta fills the capital 4–6 September. Technically you can bounce between cities. I would not. Pick one and let the weekend breathe.

AUDRA

Four days of contemporary city culture, electronic music, live bands, industrial spaces and art. This is the weekend Kaunas stops explaining itself and simply gets on with it.

Mixed free + ticketed programme
Build the trip: Modernism by day. Dinner early. AUDRA after dark. Sleep in Kaunas and recover with coffee, Mokslo Sala or a sauna.

Vilnius City Fiesta

Central Vilnius fills with concerts, markets, exhibitions, food and street activity. It is not a reason to fly across Europe by itself — but it is a very good weekend to discover the city.

City-wide programme; check individual events for ticketing
Build the trip: Use the daytime for the Old Town and one museum. Let the evening programme replace your normal “what bar next?” research.

LOFTAS Fest

An urban music festival in a former factory setting: electronic music, techno, street art, discussions and food. A better answer to “what is young Vilnius actually like?” than another guided walk.

Ticketed; check current release
Build the trip: Do the city slowly in daylight, nap without guilt, then give the night to LOFTAS.

Fluxus Festival

Costumes, absurdity, community art and a night-time climb up Parodos Hill from Jurgis Mačiūnas Square. One of the few events here that genuinely answers: “what can I do in Lithuania that I would not do at home?”

Main public ascent; check the organiser for any registration-only side events
Build the trip: Art Deco in the morning, long lunch, Pažaislis or sauna, then make a costume and climb the hill at night.

SIRENOS

International contemporary theatre and performance across Vilnius. Some works are non-verbal, which makes this unusually usable for visitors who do not speak Lithuanian.

Ticketed; programme varies
Build the trip: Choose one performance, not five. Build dinner and a walk around the venue rather than turning culture into homework.

TRIP HOOK9/10 hook

A$AP Rocky

Not a Lithuanian cultural experience. A very good reason not to fly home the morning after the concert.

From €85 + fees at time checked
Build the trip: Arrive a day early: modernism + food. Concert night. Next morning: late breakfast, Mokslo Sala or Pažaislis, then train to Vilnius.

Žalgiris EuroLeague home nights

If basketball means anything to you, a packed Žalgirio Arena is not “sport as filler”. It is one of the quickest ways to understand Kaunas. Confirmed home dates include Olympiacos (29 Sep), Anadolu Efes (16 Oct), ASVEL (23 Oct), Partizan (30 Oct), Panathinaikos (19 Nov), Paris (7 Jan) and Crvena Zvezda (14 Jan).

Ticket prices vary by opponent
Build the trip: Book the game first, then build Kaunas around it. Dinner before the arena, not after; the city will already have supplied the atmosphere.
Vilnius14–18 Oct 2026Jazz · experimental
TRAVEL FOR IT — IF JAZZ IS YOUR THING9/10

Vilnius Jazz

A serious contemporary and experimental jazz festival, not hotel-lobby jazz with a saxophone near the buffet.

Festival pass from €171; individual tickets available
Build the trip: Use the days for Vilnius, evenings for the festival. This is a very efficient October city break.

Scanorama

European cinema across Vilnius, Kaunas and other Lithuanian cities. November weather suddenly becomes less relevant.

Programme and tickets still being released
Build the trip: Keep it as your bad-weather upgrade. One excellent film is more useful than forcing another wet monument.
Vilnius9–15 Nov 2026Food · restaurants
TRAVEL FOR IT — FOR FOOD PEOPLE9/10

Vilnius Gastronomy Week

A week when restaurants build special menus around seasonal produce and current Lithuanian cooking. Much better than trying to understand the country through one giant plate of potatoes.

Special menus; prices vary by restaurant
Build the trip: Book one ambitious dinner, one traditional lunch and leave the rest flexible. I can help choose the right level rather than the most photographed room.

TRAVEL FOR IT9.5/10

Christmas in Vilnius

Tree lighting on 28 November at 19:00 and the Cathedral Square Christmas Market through 27 December. Compact Old Town + winter lights + food + churches works extremely well for a two-night break.

Tree lighting + Cathedral Square market: free entry
Build the trip: Stay central, walk, eat, use one indoor museum, then give the dark hours to Christmas. Add Trakai only if the weather behaves.

TRIP HOOK8.5/10 hook

Pitbull + Lil Jon

Again: not “Lithuanian culture”. But if the ticket has already brought you to Kaunas, letting the airport take you home immediately is poor value.

Ticket price varies / check arena
Build the trip: Make it a 36-hour Kaunas break: modernism, food, concert, slow morning, then Vilnius or home.

Vilnius Light Festival

The event that makes January make sense: light installations turn streets, courtyards and historic buildings into an open-air night gallery for Vilnius’s birthday.

Open-air public festival; 2027 access details will be confirmed with the programme
Build the trip: Friday food, Saturday slow Old Town + sauna or museum, Saturday night lights, Sunday Trakai if clear or MO if not.

M.A.M.A. 2026 (2026 awards, held Jan 2027)

Lithuania’s annual music awards in Žalgirio Arena. Language is Lithuanian, but as a snapshot of what the country is listening to now, it is more revealing than another folk-costume performance.

From €55 + fees at time checked
Build the trip: Use it as the final night of a Kaunas weekend; pair it with current food, design and modernism.

No headline event in that filter.

That does not mean the trip is empty — it means I would plan around place and season rather than force an event.

The winter weirdness list

Worth watching. Not worth inventing dates for.

These are strong Lithuania Unscripted candidates, but the 2027 organiser dates were not published in the official sources checked. They stay visibly on the watchlist until confirmed.

Užgavėnės in Rumšiškės

Already coming for a concert?

Do not fly home the next morning.

A$AP Rocky, Pitbull or another arena show is not why Lithuania exists. It is, however, a perfectly good reason to let the plane ticket buy you more than two hours in a dark room.

Build the trip around the date

Tickets are the easy bit. The weekend is the product.

If an event catches you, I can help choose the sensible hotel area, work out whether Vilnius or Kaunas should be your base, shortlist ticket and accommodation options, and build the rest of the trip around it. You normally book and pay providers directly; I add judgement, context and fewer bad tabs.

Sources & checks

Dates above are taken from organisers, city authorities or venue calendars checked 26 August 2026. Watchlist dates are deliberately not guessed.

Rule: “Watchlist” means interesting but not yet confirmed. It never silently turns into a date because an AI guessed the weekend.
